Saturday 12th - Left school 2pm. Hartington Hall YH (S of Buxton)

Sunday 13th – Edale, Grindsbrook, to moor on right, down Golden Clough. Mist

Monday 14th – Pavey Ark (Easy Gully), Harrison Stickle, Pike of Stickle, Stake Pass (got on to Martcrag Moor by mistake), Angle Tarn, Rossett Gill, Mickleden. Abut 6 hours. Cloud 1500ft and strong gusty wind.

Tuesday 15th – Coniston Old Man by direct path. Very misty and wet. Visited four quarries/caves on left of path high up. Best one (could camp in it) is 185 degrees, 300m from where path up reaches tarn (Low Water). Three upright metal posts. Another right and down from its mouth. Another right and up from it. SCO arrived evening.

Wednesday 16th – Clear and cold. 11am Glenridding, Mires Beck, Striding Edge, last few yards to Gough Memorial tricky in snow. Excellent view from summit but windy! Lower Man, Whiteside Bank, Glenridding Beck. Down by 3pm

Thursday 17th – 11am start. Left minibus at top of Wrynose. Took two cars to Wasdale Head. Started walk 12.00. Brown Tongue, Mickledore (SCO turned back). Snow, frost, cloud, wind. Scafell Pike, Esk Hause, Esk Pike, Bowfell, Hell Gill, at Stool End after 4.30. Great walk but should have started ealier, and included Crinkle Crags. Got minibus, then Wasdale Head, drove round via Whitehave, Cokermouth, Keswick – took ages. Could have gone quicker by Ulpha, Broughton, Coniston. Pizzas at Ambleside – not takeaway restaurant, chip shops closed.

Friday 18th – Much rain, stream very full. Julian and Richard H. Climb on Scout Crag. JWM and Oli Dungeon Gyll and Stickle Gyhll waterfalls. Left 2pm, meal in Ambleside.
