James Malden, Oliver Debenham, Richard Wilson, Richard Humphry, Tom Powell-Tuck, Julian Cooke, Mike Pigott, Nick Malden. First weekend at 3 Irish Row, Coniston Valley (Yorkshire Mountaineering Club, Grid ref 293985). Rest of time at Low Hall Garth.

Friday 13th
JWM by car, Oli by car, Rich H and Rich W and Tom P-T train at Oxenholme reached by Kendal centre.

Saturday 14th
Coniston Mine, Old Man. Cloud and 6” snow above 600m. Return by Goat’s water, Walna Scar Road, Coniston Sun Inn. Julian by car.

Sunday 15th
Langdale ODG, Oxendale, Brownes Gill, below Great Knott, Crinkle Crags. Fine snowy scenery. Bad Step – can get up under slab but most roped by R side. Got lost in cloud on top. Down steeply (it was Shelter Crags, or S of summit?) into Oxendale S of Hell Gill as cloud cleared. Tom just caught train. Mike arrived at LHG.

Monday 16th
Oli and Rich W depart by car. Wet and low cloud. Keswick, Slel Gill car park, Cat Bells, Maiden Moor (R diversion to mine tunnel), High Spy, not quite Dalehead Tarn, down Newlands valley (waterfalls, buttresses shrouded in mist, past Goldscope mine), Little Town.

Tuesday 17th
(JWM cold) Helvellyn from Dunmail Rais to Thirlspot

Wednesday 18th
JWM to Manchester. Quarries above LHG. Nick arrived.

Thursday 19th
Julian depart. Langdale ODG, Pike o’Stickle, Harrison Pike, fence corner 282093, Stickle Tarn (frozen). Rich H train.

Friday 20th
Quarries then home
